I can recollect two separate positive results , which happened many years ago , but have always stuck with me. The first scenario relates to a fitness calendar I sent home with my elementary students. I was out yard working in the Summer and a younger girl came into the yard and handed me a completed calendar . This was a carry over from the regular P.E. classes that I hoped would catch on . She mentioned that she needed one more mile to complete the calendar . She asked if it counted to count her mom and "grandma ." I couldn't have been more happier . In fact, this lead to a neighborhood walk /run/bike through the plan of houses each week . That lead to a fitness trail for the community that still is in operation .( 1998- present)
The second scenario is when I heard a knock on the door from some past students , who were then in their 30's . They invitited me to play volleyball on their homemade sand court . Those games went on for years and years and at the break we brought out the parachute as a reminder of days gone by. They never forgot and with that hope , wish that many more scenarios were taking place .
On a more job-like side , there have been many students who I have met at their work place, such as restaurants and businesses that have still maintained their fitness through gym memberships, marathons and charity walks to promote the "gift of life through health and fitness for a lifetime."
