It is time to look back what has transpired on the past school year , and to take or make an adjustment what has happened and ask three questions of what worked , what didn't and why ? Also , it is important to take stock of what (you) do is aligned with the national standards . Did you have an assessment plan in order ? Were there brain related activities , small sided games, technology and appropriate activities that uses real life situations , which the students can identify with ?
There are several more questions that are deemed necessary to complete the evaluation . Did you attend any conferences or conventions? Volunteer to give in-services or speak at PTA functions ? Advocate P.E. through gym shows or field days ? Integrate with the core subjects ? Work with the administration and core subject teachers? Were (you) able to adjust and modify the lesson when things didn't work ? Is there a safety plan in place?
Do you keep records , either with an electronic portfolio or files that are in the form of a blog or diary ? Is there a school web site with what you teach available to the parents ? Did you volunteer in the community , such as a walking program, recreation board or Community days ? Have you joined the national , state or local organizations ? Is a viewing of the Naspe discussion group a habit that hepls and shares with others ?
All of this is similar to the back to school link that is posted on my web page at http://igreen.tripod.com/gerpe/id42.html . In any case , it is always exemplary if (we) prepare for each school year and end with a positive assessment of what we do . Each year there is always something new or a trend that must keep us abreast of what is happening around us. Many times (we) are thrust into our own school environment and don't know what is going on with other schools. (We) must make it our job to make P.E. a viable asset to the school district(s) . To find out what other blue ribbon school are doing will help , not only our own school , but also to give the students a healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives well beyond the school years. Another question to dissect is there a fitness calendar or blog that the studnets can maintain outside of the school environment . This brings in the family unit , which will show what we teach and how important it is to stick to a plan .
Wouldn't it be nice that around the dinner table , the family discusses what happened in P.E. that day /week ! Hopefully, it won't be dodgeball , waiting in long lines and antiquated exercises with a regime of militaristic cadence. We are so much more than what P.E. is being perceived . It is more than curtailing obesity. It is the preparation of our students to make positive ,healthy observations and making a plan to maintain a healthy lifestyle .
With these thoughts , it is my hope that the school year has been successful ,and now it is time to relax , then retool for many years to come .Good luck in all your pursuits and a healthy and enjoyable vacation. You have earned ![ note: if you ever need anything please contact me and I will be more than happy to help ]
