I was thinking of organizing a unit on more abstract activities such as cup stacking, dance dance revolution, wii fit, etc. Any ideas or thoughts? Would the student response be enthusiastic?

I teach a cupstacking and a DDR unit. The DDR unit is VERY easy to get the kids enthusiastic, since most of the kids love it already. Cupstacking is a little tougher, but the kids do enjoy it. Here are some ideas:

DDR-I have a Wii DDR and (2) PS2 DDR games so we have 8 kids on a mat at a time. The others are doing the steps behind, then we rotate. Each one has its own set of songs. Then after one day of practice I offer up a tournament for those who want to, and if you don't want to you just keep practicing. This gives the kids that are competetive a chance to do so and those others something different.

Cupstacking: You can have one on one matches with 3-3-3, 3-6-3, cylce stacks. You can do aerobic running stacking. Relays with partners. You cna play a game where you have upstackers and downstackers. You can also have a tournament with cupstacking. I allow the students at the end to use all of the cups and make one big triangle. They love that!! or allow then to make a design with all of the cups as a class and then I take pictures!!!

The more enthusiastic you are about it, the more they will be too!!!!

At the school district i used to go to all the elementary school phys. ed. teachers would have a cup stcking tournament in their elementary school and the student with the fastest time from each school would go to the high school and participate against the students from the other elementary schools. It really made students love cup stacking because they wanted to represent their school.
