My principal is interested in setting a temp/wind chill guideline for our school concerning when to go outside for PE and recess. My school is in Augusta, Georgia and we only occasionally have temperatures in the 20's. I am interested in finding out any guidelines that other schools in the Southeast have concerning this topic.
Thanks:rolleyes:

I teach in North Dakota and our rule is if it is below zero (temperature or windchill) we don't go outside.

It doesn't really matter if its the South , North, East or West , as this revolves around common sense . There should be guidelines set forth in the student handbook . If not, then any decision should be made either by the administration or a weather system.
My school in (PA) had the Weather Bug alert system. If the icon was red alert ,then the decision was made. This was for all types of inclement weather. Yet, on the other hand there are so many variables that make the decision easier to make ,such as hurricane , ice , wind chill ,etc.Usually , the weather had to be beyond freezing for any recess activities at my school.( windchill factor, too)And ,was there ice or snow on the ground.
I understand this message pertains to the South , but there has to be a guideline that is understood by teachers, parents and administration with the thought of the students safety at the forefront. Nowadays ,the days of finger pointing and "red tape" may end up a bigger problem than can( we take the students out or not. )See it in writing first ,then use common sense to protect your ????
It is funny that on a trip through Quebec by train , I noticed children on the school playground when it was -15 ( February). Each school or territory has different ideas with all types of weather conditions. Brrr !
