Does anyone use the WII system in their physical education classes? I attended the national conv. last yr & there were instructors there that used it.
I plan on using it in a "station" setting....any other ideas? I just have the basic system not the balance board.

Oh if only I had a dream budget!!! I don’t have it, but would think using it in a station setting would be ideal if you don’t have enough to go around. What games will you be using?

Have you seen the new released Samba de Amigo game for the Wii? Someone had posted about it and then the server crashed so we lost the post. You shake the controllers like maracas at high low and medium levels. It has fun lively music and would be perfect for students with paraplegia or little leg control since none is needed in this game! The other Wii game on my dream list is Active Life: Outdoor Challenge. That one looks like QUITE a workout with activities like kayaking, in-line skating, log jumping, mole stomping (my favorite!) and mine-cart racing.

I’ve been thinking of writing a grant to try and get a couple systems. I can see so many benefits to it in the Adapted world, particularly with my small-group and one on one settings.

I have been lucky enough where I teach to have a Wii with the wii fit game and the DDR game. I also have (2) PS2s with DDR. I haven't tried the Wii yet this year, but last year I borrowed (3) PS2s and we did a unit using them and the kids went absolutely nuts with it!!! With the older kids we did tournaments for those who wanted to participate and that was a huge hit. This year I am would like to use it as one of my fitness stations eventually. If you have any other questions let me know.

We wrote a grant and received one Wii for each of our high schools. They include extra equipment and sport packs. Next year, we were encouraged to write another for more equipment and to expand to middle schools. I use the Wii as a station. When we are on a specific sport included in the Wii, my students practice that sport but when the sport activity isn't they practice boxing for cardio/ fitness. The Wii boxing is good because you just need to move your arms and not push any of the buttons. (get a wrist strap);)
I would encourage everyone to write a grant, need help, google grant writing, use your school's tech or reading teacher and then google Wii for articles that will support your school districts goals and the standards for physical education because they are out there.

I think that the "Wii" is a great new aspect to teach students... It is a growing technology trend and find it a great way to teach certain skills.. I plan to use it myself, so any new suggestions that you have please let me know as well.

Thanks,

Ashley

I think the Wii would be useful to help the students practice their cues and form when attempting specific skills.
I am still in college and haven't experienced the Wii in any school setting but I do think that the Wii will contribute a good amount. The boxing is one thing that i feel really gives a good workout. Especially with the Wii fit, I have done it multiple times and I get out of breath sometimes.

But I also feel as though there could be some issues with some students finding ways around doing the different tasks properly, just trying to get good scores and beat other students.
