I have several Polar heart rate monitors. I tried to replace the batteries myself but when I removed the backs it looks as if it is beyond my skill level. I even took it to a small town jeweler and they could not figure it out.

I know that they can be sent to Polar but I was hoping to find a way that involves less expense. I have the E series 200's and 600's. Has anyone done them on their own that can give some direction? Thanks.

I really like this new format for the Discussion Groups. Thanks to those who took the initiative to set it up.:)

I talked to one of our catalog directors who is very involved with heart rate monitors and here is what he said:

"Polar HRM batteries require replacement by Polar. If you do not send them to Polar and break the seal yourself, all warranties are voided."

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Thanks for the advice. I also have EKHO heart rate monitors. Battery replacement seems to be more practical (and economical) for a do-it-your-selfer like me. As for quality; POLAR is hard to beat. The batteries in my POLAR E series receivers are just now going dead after approximately six years.

The only way that I know of replacing the batteries is through the company. There are a lot of quality heart rate monitors on the market that compete with Polar. Some of these companies produce heart rate monitors that are easier to change batteries and complete general maintenance. I can recommend Timex brand. They have been making watches for many years now and they introduced heart rate monitors a few years back with a lot of success. I have brought a few Timex heart rate monitors and they work great.

HRM battery replacement has always been a problem with polar HRMs, and has for years been a bone of contention. The cost of maintenance must be factored into the total price, and decision making process when ordering HRMs. Most manufacturers allow you to change the HRMs batteries yourself, and provide instructions. Some require a watchmaker to do it, and still others have an easy open battery compartment for easy changing. I have used both Reebok and MIO Shape which I change myself, both are strapless.
